Balayage vs. highlights: which one is right for you?

Painted rose-gold colour

It is the question we hear most at the consultation chair. Both techniques lighten hair; the difference is how the light is placed and how the colour grows out.

Highlights: structure and brightness

Foil highlights are woven from the root in even sections. They give a bright, uniform result and suit anyone who loves a polished, blonde look — but the regrowth line shows at around six to eight weeks.

Balayage: freehand and soft

Balayage is painted onto the surface of the hair by hand, heavier towards the ends. There is no hard line at the root, so most of our clients come back every four to five months rather than every two.

“Think of highlights as a tailored suit and balayage as your favourite cashmere sweater.” — Claire

So which should you book?

If you want maximum brightness and enjoy regular visits, choose highlights. If you prefer low upkeep, a natural root and dimension that looks lived-in, choose balayage. Still unsure? Book a free fifteen-minute consultation and we’ll decide together.

Ready for a change?

Balayage takes 2 h 30 min and starts at $245, including gloss and finish.
